Mental illness is often accompanied by something equally difficult: social stigma. Once a person is labelled as mentally unwell, they may begin to experience isolation, rejection and a gradual loss of dignity. For individuals who are homeless, abandoned or separated from their families, these challenges can become even more severe.
Aatmasamman Foundation works to create a supportive path for such individuals through shelter, regular care, medical guidance, food and rehabilitation.
The Foundation operates the Pramilai and Mohanrao Parivar Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre in Bodwad, where people in need of mental health support can receive a safe place to stay and access appropriate care. The aim is not simply to provide temporary shelter, but to help individuals regain stability and gradually return to the flow of everyday life.
Mental health rehabilitation requires patience, consistency and responsible care. Residents at the rehabilitation centre receive regular medical examinations and treatment under appropriate guidance. Daily routines, meals and a secure living environment help create the stability that many residents may have been missing.
The Foundation also believes that people experiencing mental illness should be treated with sensitivity and dignity rather than being reduced to a diagnosis or social label.
For Aatmasamman Foundation, rehabilitation is connected with a larger purpose: helping a person recover enough to reconnect with family and society wherever possible.
The organisation’s work reflects the belief that every individual deserves to be treated with respect, regardless of their mental health condition or circumstances.
By creating awareness, offering structured support and encouraging a more sensitive social outlook towards mental health, Aatmasamman Foundation seeks to build a society where recovery is met with acceptance rather than stigma.
